New Orleans Jazz Fest 2013
All it took was handing a microphone to Mahalia Jackson (arguably the greatest gospel singer), the Eureka Brass Band, and a crowd of second line revelers to create a spirit-filled party and performance that became renewed yearly by musicians from around the world thereafter as The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. And ever since the birth of the festival on that remarkable day in April 1970, New Orleans has celebrated its status as the birthplace of Jazz with superstar act after superstar act for 43 years.
This April 26 – May 5, the lyrical and rhythmic bonds reunite in what is sure to be a spectacular festival true to the founding of this cultural force. New Orleans is abuzz, the booze and food are ordered and the hotels are booked for this year’s lineup.
